Grace is divine assistance
We saw a hypnotist on television tell several people, when he clapped his hands, they would become a monkey, a donkey, a cat, and he even told one man that he would become James Bond. When the hypnotist clapped, the man he told to be a monkey, began walking around the stage on his knuckles and scratching his sides. It was the same with the men he told to be the donkey and the cat. They took on the characteristics of the animals. The man told to act like James Bond began slipping around the stage like a spy. It was funny watching people act out what had been suggested to them.
We do this same thing with trying to express our life through a value system, which in the end will not work. We are not monkeys, even though many times we may act like them. We are not donkeys, but often, if something happens to disappoint or hurt us, then we bray like one. We are not cats, but let something come that we don’t like, and we will tear our surroundings to shreds like a cat. We have been hypnotized by the world’s way of thinking. We have developed (through a value system) a dire need for acceptance and approval. But to all who are in Christ Jesus we have a new system in place, through the redeeming quality of God. In Grace, there is a new system, and we find that we are in the beloved of God, accepted and approved.
No wonder Webster’s says that Grace is divine assistance. His Grace is powerful to the point that it will change us from the inside out. He gives to us richly His Grace and virtues. And others see His good works in us, and they glorify our Father who is in heaven. Walking a life of Grace is a good thing—Amen.
